The Gregoria series of bowls is one of Celia's first approaches to clay and is named after her teacher, Gregoria Cruz, a potter from the Río Blanco Tonaltepec village and member of our cooperative.
This collection attempts to return to the expressiveness of the traditional Tonaltepec finish (red slip + splashes) in a more contemporary way.

Volume capacity: 44 oz
In Tonaltepec they make “splashed clay,” with a unique technique that distinguishes them for their beauty and for being one of the few in the world that uses vegetable pigments to decorate. Its peculiar stain texture is achieved by applying an ink made from tree bark to the pieces fresh from the oven. The Tonaltepec tradition also includes a red slip made with soil from the same area.
In addition to its peculiar beauty, the clay of this community is suitable for serving, drinking and even cooking over direct heat in an oven or stove.
After a few years in use, the stains of the Tonaltepec clay become faint and the surface of the clay becomes uniform and shiny, something we consider magical and beautiful.
